Laminated Welding Shunts

Custom Laminated Welding Shunts Made for Your Application

Our skilled craftsmen hand-make each laminated welding shunt to your exact specifications. Each shunt must be individually specified to fit your machine. Please supply a sketch with your quotation request. We’ll gladly help you create your sketch if you have questions.

Two Shunt Finish Options

We offer two different finishes for laminated welding shunts:

  • Press welded style
  • Clipped and riveted style

Why We Recommend Clipped and Riveted

For resistance welding applications, we always recommend clipped and riveted laminated welding shunts. Press welded and riveted shunts perform identically in form, fit, and function. Some applications may require press welded shunts. In our experience, this choice won’t affect your resistance welder’s performance.

Pressed and welded shunts are more expensive than clipped and riveted.

Standard vs. Continuous Lamination Construction

Standard Construction

We hand wind and form your laminated shunt using cut laminations.

Continuous Lamination (Available Upon Request)

Continuous laminations flow around the shunt ends without interruption. This allows current to flow around the ends as well. You get improved current distribution and more even heat distribution throughout the entire shunt. We utilize both construction methods depending on your shunt’s size and design requirements.

Lamination Thickness Options

We make standard laminated welding shunts from .005″ copper laminations. You can also request .003″ and .010″ thicknesses.

How to Order Your Laminated Welding Shunt

Click the “Request a Quote” button at the bottom right of this screen. Provide these specifications when ordering:

  1. Shunt type (shape)
  2. Lamination leaf thickness (.005″, .003″, or .010″)
  3. Total shunt thickness (laminations only)
  4. Shunt width
  5. Shunt length (outside length)
  6. Hole diameter – ID
  7. Hole pattern and number of holes
  8. Hole location from shunt end

Quality Materials and Construction

We manufacture laminated welding shunts from high-grade copper. We normally secure the ends with riveted copper clips for maximum durability.

Shunt Types and how to measure them correctly

Letter Style Measurements
F Straight Shunt Overall length is measured from end to end.
L&V L Shaped Shunt Overall length is measured along the outer edge, end to end.
C C Shaped Shunt Overall length is measured from end to end along the outside edge of the shunt. You also need to specify the outer edge dimension accross the open face.
J J Shaped Shunt Overall length is measured from end to end along the outside edge of the shunt. You also need to specify the outer edge dimension accross the open face. Add the distance offset between the two shunt faces.
